According 2 The Savannah Now Armstrong State University professor PhD Regina Bradley will be teaching a course on Outkast and their influence on Southern writing. Bradley’s areas of interest are African American literature and popular culture. Throughout the course students will analyze Outkast albums and other Hip-Hop artist examining Hip-Hop’s influence of contemporary American movements such as Black Lives Matter among others to show how Hip-Hop can be used as a political expression.
The final project is a 12-15 page paper on the Hip-Hop album of their choice (preferably an Outkast album) to discuss the themes they hear in the music. Bradley is also writing a book about Outkast and their influence on Southern Hip-Hop from a literary and musical standpoint.
Although Outkast as a group formed and represented Atlanta Big Boi’s roots are in Savannah. Andre 3000 has also worked with Savannah College Of Art And Design on various projects. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this course.
