A wrongful-death lawsuit tied to the 2021 killing of Nicki Minaj ’s father has officially been settled, closing a yearslong legal battle that briefly threatened to pull her into court.
According to court documents, the rapper’s mother Carol Maraj and Charles Polevich reached an agreement in early March, ending the dispute over damages tied to Robert Maraj’s death. Carol had originally filed suit seeking compensation for the loss of her husband’s companionship.
The settlement follows a controversial legal move from Polevich, who previously attempted to subpoena Minaj for a deposition. He aimed to question the rapper about lyrics referencing her upbringing, arguing they could be used to challenge the nature of her parents’ relationship and potentially reduce damages. The deposition never took place.
Robert Maraj, 65, was fatally struck in February 2021 while crossing a street in Long Island. Authorities said Polevich fled the scene but was later identified through surveillance footage.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to charges related to leaving the scene of the accident and tampering with evidence, and was sentenced to one year in jail.
