Rap fans could be getting a bombshell to kick off the new year. As one of the most anticipated albums of 2026, it could be dropping as soon as this week. According to Mal of the Rory and Mal Podcast, rap star J. Cole is expected to drop his highly anticipated project, The Fall Off, this coming Thursday (January 8).
Source Hints at J. Cole Dropping His Album This Week
During a recent episode of Rory & Mal, Mal mentioned that Cole was initially scheduled to release the album on Christmas.
“I thought he was going to drop on Christmas— I was a little early. Maybe some things didn’t get cleared with the industry being closed, but he is dropping off on Thursday night,” he said during a recent taping of the podcast.

However, fans in the comments section did not seem to be buying what Mal was selling.
“Who believes Mal in big 2026?” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Until I hear the date from Cole himself, everything is he said-she said,” another user added.
“0% chance J Cole drops his album this week. And, how would Mal of all people have access to that information?” a third user chimed in.
However, despite people’s skepticism, Mal appears to have access to privileged information about the forthcoming album. Which apparently played a major part in the album being delayed. During a December episode of his and Rory’s podcast, Mal mentions that Kendrick Lamar and Drake were both originally planned to be on the project. However, it sounds like Cole decided to boot both artists off the project in the aftermath of their lyrical warfare.
“Yes, Kendrick was on the album, and Drake was on the album. Well, was, which is why we didn’t get the album, cause now he gotta do his whole album over,” Mal said as heard through @Kurrrco/X.
It will be interesting to see when the album actually does drop.
