On Tuesday (December 30), New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs appeared in court to respond to an assault and strangulation charge. And while details were initially scarce, details have begun to surface about why the star wide receiver has found himself on the hot seat.
Gruesome Details Emerge About Diggs’ Assault Charge
According to TMZ, Diggs allegedly got into a physical altercation with a woman whom he employed as his personal chef. Per the outlet, the woman apparently had her own room at Diggs’ residence. And when she approached him about a pay discrepancy, he slapped her across the face. And then he “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”
The outlet also says that the woman claims that while the Patriots star was choking her, she experienced difficulty breathing and feared that she “could have blacked out.”
The woman also said that even once the assault was over, she continued to plead with Diggs to make her whole. But he accused her of lying before he eventually walked out of the room.
The incident occurred on December 2, and the woman went to the authorities on December 16.
Following his court appearance, the Patriots released a statement. Noting that they are aware of the situation. They also say that Diggs has “categorically denied” the accusations made against him.
“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
