Steph Curry has finally decided which company will be the home to his next signature shoe. And his decision is a shocker.
Stephen Curry Inks Deal With Li-Ning
According to ESPN NBA Insider, Shams Charania, Curry has inked a deal with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning. While the dollar amount of his new deal still has not been disclosed, the partnership is for 10 years. So likely very lucrative.
However, the dollar amount of the deal isn’t what makes this contract such a big deal. It is a landmark deal that will allow the Golden State Warriors star to “extend his Curry Brand venture globally and encompasses basketball products, athleisure, the ability for Curry to sign athletes under his brand, and a full golf line,” according to Charania.
Most people expected Steph to sign with a global sneaker giant like Nike or Adidas. However, Charania said that doing test runs in the signature sneakers of his teammate Jimmy Butler and NBA legend Dwyane Wade ultimately landed him with Li-Ning.
Curry announced that he was signing with the brand in a hype video on his Instagram account on Monday (June 1). And called the deal “the partnership of a lifetime.”
“The next stage is set. This is bigger than a shoe deal. Bigger than a signature series. This is the partnership of a lifetime,” he said. “The future of Curry Brand will be powered by a company truly rooted in sports and innovation. A partner dedicated to creating quality products, with sneakers that I believe in. That will continue to deliver at the highest level. Together, we will continue the Curry Brand mission. With stories, platforms, and products that will inspire the next generation around the globe and change the game for good.”
The video ends with Curry picking up a sneaker box. Presumed to contain his first signature shoe with Li-Ning. However, the picture fades to black, just as he lifts the lid.
