On a recent episode of A2HH Live With Mike D and Coop. I broke down my list of the Greatest Wider Receivers of All Time. These men changed the game of football and left an impact the ones that came behind them.
1. Jerry Rice
Let’s start with the GOAT Jerry Rice. Over his illustrious career, Rice amassed numerous NFL records, including most receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. His work ethic, precision route running, and incredible hands made him a force to be reckoned with. With three Super Bowl rings and numerous Pro Bowl selections, Rice’s legacy is firmly cemented in the annals of NFL history.
2. Randy Moss
Randy Moss was a game-changer. His combination of size, speed, and incredible leaping ability made him one of the most feared receivers in league history. Moss’s ability to stretch the field and make spectacular catches was unmatched which was highlighted in his first season as a Patriot with Tom Brady, where he set the record for the most touchdown receptions (23) in a single season. To this day, Moss is still considered one of the greatest deep threats in NFL history.
3. Terrell Owens
Terrell Owens, popularly known as T.O., was a passionate and dominant force on the field most notably for the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys. His physicality and strong work ethic made him a nightmare for defenders. Owens was also known for his touchdown celebrations and larger-than-life personality. With over 15,000 career receiving yards and 153 touchdowns, the Hall of Famer was one of the best to ever do it.
4. Cris Carter
Cris Carter’s remarkable career took him from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Minnesota Vikings, where he truly shined. Carter was known for his incredible hands, concentration, and ability to make acrobatic catches. He accumulated over 1,100 receptions and 130 touchdowns during his career and is regarded as one of the best of his era.
5. Sterling Sharpe
Before Club Shay Shay and the legend of Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, there was his older brother who according to Unc “was the best player in the family’. Sterling Sharpe may not be mentioned as frequently as some of the other wide receivers, but his impact on the game is undeniable. An injury cut his career short, but while he was active, he was a force to be reckoned with. Sharpe was a seven-time Pro Bowler and led the league in receptions three times. His ability to create separation and consistently make plays in tough situations set him apart from the proverbial “Pack”. There is still a strong case to be made that his bust should be in Canton.
