Three 6 Mafia has officially settled its long-running copyright lawsuit against New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$, closing a legal dispute that stretched over five years and involved claims of extensive unauthorized sampling.
According to court documents filed on Nov. 26, DJ Paul (Paul Beauregard) and Juicy J (Jordan Houston) reached a full settlement with Ivan Ramirez — one half of the $uicideboy$’s management team — resolving all claims “to their mutual satisfaction.” The ruling states that the case has been settled in its entirety, though financial terms of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed.
The lawsuit began in September 2020, when Paul and Juicy J accused $uicideboy$ members Scrim and Ruby Da Cherry of illegally sampling and stealing from 35 Three 6 Mafia songs, asserting that the duo’s dark, Memphis-inspired sound was built on unlicensed use of their catalog. The group sought more than $6.4 million in damages, including $1.2 million in compensatory damages tied to profits from the alleged infringements and an additional $5.25 million in statutory damages.
While details of the settlement remain confidential, the resolution marks the end of a contentious chapter between the Memphis pioneers and the internet-born $uicideboy$, whose rise has been heavily influenced by the horrorcore tradition Three 6 Mafia helped create.
For now, the two sides appear ready to move forward — and the case that once put two generations of underground rap at odds has finally come to a close.
