Too Short Explains His Reason For Avoiding Tupac
Pac began to emulate some of the same behaviors he saw and ultimately became a product of his environment. After linking up with Suge Knight at Death Row Records, his name became synonymous with violence. Rap legend Too Short said that when he saw some of the behavior Pac began to exhibit, he began to avoid the rap star.
“I personally avoided ambitious 2Pac, because he probably would have ended up in some f*cked up spaces around me,” he said in a recent interview.
“You got to be in the right state of mind… He did it, bro, he went to L.A. he ended up in those circles. … He was like, ‘I want to be that gangster revolutionary,’ like everything. ‘I want to be the lady’s man, I want to be the biggest rapper.’ He had that ambition”
Too Short also added: “I was like, ‘Get that sh*t away from me.’ I didn’t want to be a bad influence on 2Pac, and that was just my choice.”
The Oakland native also detailed a story where he saw that Tupac was about that life, firsthand. Short recalled a story where he was in a car with Tupac and he noticed that he had a gun on him. And after seeing that Pac was no stranger to that life, he decided to keep him out of certain areas in Oakland. For his own safety.
“I knew what he was getting into and I was like, ‘If my guys catch wind of his ambition, they’re going to cling to him,'” he continued. “He could find his way anywhere he wants in the world, but I’m not bringing him to where I’m at… I could tell that he wanted the streets.”
