Tory Lanez is headed back to court. And depending on how things shake out, he could be a free man as early as next month.
Tory Lanez Set to Try Case in Appeals Court
According to a recent report from All Hip Hop, the rap star is set to appear in the appeals court in August.
To catch you up on things, Tory is serving a 10-year sentence. He was accused of shooting rap star Megan Thee Stallion during a heated incident in 2020. The presiding judge is set to hear “oral arguments” from the defense on August 18. And Lanez and his attorneys are optimistic that the sentence could be overturned.
Tory has always maintained that he was innocent in his case. But he really began pushing for his freedom in 2025. After he was hospitalized because of a prison brawl in May. One that left him with 14 stab wounds and two collapsed lungs.
Tory has some prominent people fighting for his release. According to AllHipHop, Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna is among the many politicians who have supported Lanez’s petition to be released.
Luna notes that the guilty verdict in Lanez’s case was “largely driven by headlines.”
And is among several politicians who are urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant his release.
However, Megan’s Lawyer, Alex Spiro, insists that the right decision was made and that Lanez belongs in prison.
“Despite Mr. Lanez being convicted at trial by overwhelming evidence (that included his admission of his guilt), he and his team – flanked by any ignorant person they can find – have pushed whatever misleading narrative they can,” Megan’s lawyer Alex Spiro said.
“One by one, their misleading statements unravel and all that is left is the simple truth: he was convicted by overwhelming evidence, and those who seek to traumatize the victim of the crime should be called out as foolish bullies.”
