Tory Lanez is facing an uphill battle in his $100 million lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
In 2025, Tory was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times in a prison brawl. Lanez was stabbed a total of 14 times and suffered two collapsed lungs.
In the aftermath of the assault, Lanez sued the CDCR, claiming that they were liable for the attack. He accused guards of intentionally placing him and the inmate together, despite his violent history and Lanez’s celebrity status.
The lawsuit also stated that the guards did not respond in a timely enough fashion. And for not using available resources such as smoke bombs or flash grenades.

However, in court docs obtained by AllHipHop, CDCR is fighting back against the federal lawsuit. They have moved for Tory’s lawsuit to be dismissed. Because federal courts have no power over a state agency.
Santino Casio, the man who was responsible for Lanez’s hospitalization, is as dangerous as they come. The 42-year-old inmate has been in the facility since 2004. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for convictions of second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
However, despite his violent history, in a 2025 interview with TMZ, Casio claimed that his assault on Lanez was an act of self-defense. And that the rap star had put a bounty on his head. And when he crossed paths with Lanez, he feared things would turn violent after allegedly seeing a “lump” in Tory’s pocket. Which he presumed to be a weapon.
