With the success of the gritty reboot of Fresh Prince Of Bel Air in Bel Air, Netflix is bringing back the iconic Black sitcom A Different World, though the trailer makes it seem like a multi-genre show, leaning towards comedy.
But unlike Bel Air, the show appears to be a continuation with a new generation of Hillman students. In fact, former series regulars such as Cree Summer, Darryl M. Bell, Charnele Brown and Jada Pinkett Smith will return for some appearances. The show features the daughter of Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), Deborah Wayne, as she embarks on her own college journey.
The show features a heavy hitting list of producers, including Creative Officer, and driving force to the show’s post Lisa Bonet improvement, Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood. Felicia Pride, known for Bel-Air and Grey’s Anatomy, will serve as showrunner.
Brandy will sing the theme song. The show is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.

Fans React To A Different World Reboot
The trailer received a range of reactions.
“I never saw the old show, know of the old show from seeing clips online from fans. I have to say this Netflix trailer for the revival of “A Different World” looks pretty good and visually stunning. I will be watching,” one user posted.
“OG Different World was special. Take care of our baby. Gotta give props where it’s due, this doesn’t look bad at all. Like what I’m seeing I’m in Don’t f*** up now,” another user posted.
“Off the preview it’s giving a blacker version of Grownish with a better budget and marketing,” another user posted.
Other users expressed some disappointment that it wouldn’t be a traditional sitcom, though producers for the show maintain this is not a gritty drama and instead, a stylized comedy with dramatic elements. A Different World post Bonet was considered a comedy-drama.
