Fans were growing impatient with Travis Scott as they waited for him to drop new music. So they were pleasantly surprised when he flooded the streets. With the sequel to his Jackboys album, which is titled Jackboys 2, on Sunday, July 13.
Chicago Band Calls Out Travis Scott For Not Clearing Sample For “Jackboys 2”
La Flame’s new project has been out for less than a week. But it is already at the center of controversy. Chicago-based band Pixel Grip is alleging that the rap star sampled one of their songs on his new project. Without their permission.
They alleged that the song Kick Out, which features 21 Savage, samples their 2021 song, Pursuit.
“Travis Scott sampled ‘pursuit’ (without permission) in his new song ‘kick out.’ I just can’t stop thinking about who else extremely famous or powerful in music knows about us. And even actively likes our music but refuses to throw us a f*****ng bone,” the band said via CBS News.
They also said it is even more disappointing that someone as famous as Travis did not clear the sample with them. Especially given that they are a band who are actively putting out new music.
“Like I almost understand not clearing a sync from like a random 99-cent record from 50 years ago at a thrift store… we are active. And hungry, and spinning the wheels on the ground, trying to make a career out of thin air with only underground support,” they added.
However, the band did note that Scott’s co-producer, Sean Momberger, did reach out to them after their posts went viral. And he assured the band that Scott’s label “should be reaching out to clear the sample soon.”
Scott’s JACKBOYS 2 is projected to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales estimated at 253,000 units. If it does claim the top spot, it will be the fourth number one album of Travis’s career, joining Astroworld, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, and Utopia.
