It has been over a year since rap stars Drake and Kendrick Lamar aimed at each other in a series of songs. And although the world appears to have moved on from their 2024 lyrical warfare, Drake seems to be ready to secure a win by any means necessary. Even if that means a lawsuit.
UMG Comes to Kendrick’s Defense Amid Drake Lawsuit
Drake had brought litigation against several entities over the distribution of Kendrick’s Not Like Us. Alleging that many of the remarks made about him in the song are not only false but damaging to his character. Specifically relating to the “certified pedo*****,” lyrics.
In an amended complaint against the music label, Drake argues that the omission of the lyrics during Kendrick’s Super Bowl halftime performance is an admission of guilt.
The two sides were back in court on Monday (June 30). And the music label is requesting that the suit be dismissed.
During the court appearance, UMG explained that the lyric was a play on words that reference Drake’s 2023 studio album “Certified Lover Boy.” As caught by Inner City Press.
Drizzy is no stranger to rap feuds. The rap star went head-to-head with lyricist, Pusha T in 2018. Amid their feud, King Push aired out Drake’s dirty laundry in his song “Story of Adidon.” On the record, the “Daytona” creator revealed that Drizzy had a child with Sophie Brussaux also known as adult film star Rosie Divine.
Amid Drizzy’s lawsuit, Pusha doubled down on his criticism of Drake. Noting that his current lawsuit “cheapens the art”
“I don’t rate him anymore. The suing thing is bigger than some rap sh–. I just don’t rate you,” the rap star said in a June 2025 interview with GQ.” “Damn, it’s like it just kind of cheapens the art of it once we gotta have real questions about suing and litigation. Like, what? For this?”
