San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has unlocked yet another career achievement. On Wednesday (July 22), Wemby was revealed as the cover athlete for the NBA 2K27 video game.

In a release following the announcement, the Spurs big man called being the newest cover athlete a “dream come true.”
“When you’re truly obsessed with basketball, the game doesn’t stop when you leave the arena. NBA 2K is the court that never locks up; it’s always open whether you’re in Paris or San Antonio. It’s how you study the game, sharpen your IQ, and live basketball 24/7,” Wemby said in the release. “To be the face of a game that fuels that hunger for hoops and whose covers immortalize the all-time greats, that’s a dream come true for me.”

Of course, fans on social media also had plenty to say about the new 2K cover.
“Wemby on the cover is perfect. Pre-ordered already, this is gonna be good,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Been told whoever brings more money always gets the spot,” a second user added.
“So Brunson wins the chip, but Victor gets the cover. Disrespect for the champions is crazy,” a third user remarked.
It was a breakout year for Wembanayma. In his 2026 campaign, he averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and was voted the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He also was a finalist for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award and led the Spurs to their first NBA Finals berth since 2014.
