South Florida rapper Walking Bankroll was arrested by federal agents last Tuesday (March 31) in connection with an alleged $8 million tax refund fraud scheme.
Prosecutors say the artist — born David Edmond — is charged with filing false claims against the U.S., tied to a $14,693 fraudulent refund from 2022 that was allegedly part of a much larger operation involving nearly 450 tax returns totaling about $7.9 million.
According to investigators, Edmond used a subscription database to obtain Social Security numbers by creating a fake company to gain access. Authorities claim he ran hundreds of searches, pulling personal data tied to over 1,000 individuals, and linked him to the scheme through social media accounts, email records, and IP data.
A 2025 airport search of his phone allegedly uncovered images of IDs, passports, and ledgers containing sensitive personal information. He was ultimately arrested Tuesday at Miami–Opa Locka Executive Airport after boarding a private flight but before departure.
Agents say he had over $7,600 in cash and expensive jewelry at the time of his arrest.
Edmond was detained at Opa-locka Airport aboard a private jet just moments before takeoff to Sint Maarten and is currently being held on bond restrictions that limit his travel, internet use, and financial activity. If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison.
