Ye is officially headed to trial in a lawsuit filed by former contractor Tony Saxon, who is seeking $1 million in damages over alleged labor abuses tied to renovations on Ye’s Malibu mansion.
More than two years after the lawsuit was filed in September 2023, jury selection began Monday (Feb. 23). The case centers around Ye’s $57 million beachfront property, which he purchased in 2021. According to court documents, Ye and his wife, Bianca Censori, hired Saxon to oversee extensive renovations — including gutting the interior and replacing it with concrete.
In his complaint, Saxon alleges he was forced to work grueling 16-hour days under unsafe conditions. He claims he became so exhausted that he had no choice but to nap on-site, recalling one instance in which he woke up to Ye standing over him saying, “I thought you’d be working.”
Saxon further alleges that his safety complaints were ignored, even after he suffered a workplace injury. He also claims payments became delayed and that after confronting Ye about unpaid wages and extreme labor demands, a dispute ensued that ultimately led to his termination.
The lawsuit includes claims of disability discrimination, labor code violations, unpaid wages and reimbursements, and wrongful retaliatory termination.
“Tony has been waiting two-and-a-half years for his day in court, and he’s looking forward to telling his story,” Saxon’s attorney, Neama Rahmani, told USA TODAY. “The public will be able to draw their own conclusions as to who is telling the truth.”
Both Ye and Censori are reportedly expected to testify. Ahead of the proceedings, the presiding judge has also warned the couple about dressing appropriately in court.
As the trial unfolds, the high-profile case is expected to draw significant attention, adding another legal chapter to Ye’s already turbulent recent years.
