The news that Ye is blocked from entering the UK has lit up social media. Wireless Festival, which originally planned to bill Ye as the headliner for their next event, has been forced to cancel for the first time since the 2020 Covid pandemic.
What Are Ye Fans Saying About The Cancellation?
Many fans expressed disappointment over the UK Home Office’s decision.
“Keir Starmer doesn’t care about black people,” said one user. “Starmer will ban rappers, but not terrorists,” said another user. “All of this heat on Kanye and you have paedophiles strolling to work in the government, Starmer resign NOW!,” demanded another user.
Other fans zeroed in on a particular post where someone celebrated buying tickets to the festival hours before it cancelation.
“BANGGGGGGG WE’RE SEEING KANYE WEST,” posted X user Charlie_YSL in clear glee.
The replies made sure to let Charlie know his cruel twist of fate.
“I’m crine bro,” said one user. “Rip,” said another user. “That refund gonna hit good,” chimed in another user.
Charlie tried to take the news in stride.
“GUYS IT’S STILL MONTH AWAY THINGS COULD CHANGE,” said Charlie. “Last year they let Vybz Kartel perform who literally dismembered someone…,” claimed Charlie.
Some journalists weighed in with more nuanced takes.
“It’s remarkably abhorrent that we continue to imply that the only thing Kanye has to atone for is antisemitism,” posted journalist Shamira ibrahim. “I don’t care if he performs but media continuing to perpetuate this is irresponsible at best and willfully malicious at worst.”
Other journalists such as Andre Gee, made it clear he opposed Kanye, but worried about the precident this could set. “Only this timeline would have me going to bat for this dickhead smh, I’m going back to sleep,” posted Gee. “If the people didn’t buy enough tickets and the show was canceled id be encouraged but I’m never going to celebrate the state being exclusionary because there’s always an ulterior motive.”

What Are Ye Opposers Saying?
The decision also had quite a bit of supporters.
“THATS WHAT YOU GET FOR HEADLINING A NAZI PERFORMER,” said one user. “Your headline artist released a single called ‘Heil Hitler’ and sold merchandise featuring a swastika,” said another user. “When you booked him, did you ask yourselves… What could possibly go wrong?” “Right decision – you know he’ll be a t** on stage and incite stupidity amongst the crowd,” said another user.
In his official statement UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer applauded the decision.
“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless (festival),” posted Starmer. “This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”
