Kanye West’s recent attempt to walk back his antisemitic rhetoric wasn’t enough to keep him welcome Down Under.
Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Ye’s visa has been officially revoked, citing his controversial “Heil Hitler” song released earlier this year.
“[Kanye West] has been coming to Australia for a long time… and he’s made a lot of offensive comments,” Burke said. “But my officials looked at it again once he released the Heil Hitler song, and he no longer has a valid visa in Australia.”
The track, which shockingly praised Adolf Hitler, was released in early May and sparked international outrage. It came on the heels of a troubling pattern of antisemitic behavior from the rapper, including a string of inflammatory posts on X (formerly Twitter) where he infamously stated “I love Hitler” and “I’m a Nazi.”
Although Ye appeared to walk back those remarks weeks ago—posting back in May that he was “finished with antisemitic rhetoric”—the damage was already done.
“What’s not sustainable is to import hatred,” Burke continued. “We have enough problems in this country already without deliberately importing bigotry.”
The decision to pull Ye’s visa reflects a hardline stance by Australian authorities against public figures who promote hate speech, even if they later attempt to distance themselves from it.
Ye has not publicly commented on the visa cancellation as of yet.
