Ye released a new track on Instagram this week titled “Alive,” featuring NBA YoungBoy. The song clearly samples Playboi Carti’s “CRANK,” which led some fans to believe Carti had approved the use — even taking it as a sign of reconciliation between the two artists.

That theory didn’t last long.
Carti swiftly responded through his Opium Instagram account, dropping a music video for his original version of the track and captioning it, “DIS MY SONG LIL BRA @ye.” The message left little room for doubt: Carti hadn’t signed off on anything.
Tension between the artist FKA Kanye West and Cash Carti has been brewing for months. Just last November, the Atlanta rapper announced Ye’s involvement in his now highly-acclaimed album MUSIC. But when the project finally dropped in March — with a rather generous 30 tracks — Ye’s contributions were nowhere to be found. His absence likely stems from the backlash surrounding his inflammatory remarks on social media, including antisemitic statements and references to the Ku Klux Klan and violence against women.
But according to the Chicago mogul, Carti didn’t just distance himself — he crossed a line.
When Carti allegedly reached out to Kim Kardashian to collaborate with North West, Ye took it personally. He viewed it not as a professional move, but as a provocation.
In retaliation, Ye threatened to end Carti’s career. “This n**** is stupid, bro,” he said. “You don’t know — when I’m dealing with my kids, this ain’t your niece. This is my daughter.”
He didn’t stop there. Ye continued, “Don’t f*** with me, boy. Don’t f****** play with me. You letting these white people use us against each other, you letting these Jews use us against each other. I put you on!”
Tensions between Carti and Ye have been ongoing for months — with no sign of resolution in sight.
