Ye may not get to headline Wireless Festival after all. Despite initial reports that his visa to get into the UK had been approved, a new report from the BBC states his visa had been withdrawn after further review.
What Happened With Ye’s Visa?
The rapper, formally known as Kanye West, was booked to headline all three nights of London’s Wireless Festival this summer. However, his inclusion generated controversy, with several key figures, including the mayor of London, condemning the move. Now, it appears Ye’s past antisemitic comments, which he claims happened due to a extended manic episode, may keep him from performing in the UK.
In a statement from the UK Home Office, they explained their stance.
“The decision to refuse permission was made on the grounds that his presence would not be conducive to the public good,” The BBC reported.
Ye seemed to feel the pressure, offering to meet with members of the Jewish community to express his regret.
One representative of the Jewish community accepted Ye’s request, on the grounds that he withdrew from the festival.
As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel.
