YNW Melly’s legal team is not happy about a judge denying his latest request for bond. On Tuesday (May 6), Judge Martin Fein remanded the rapper to Broward County Jail until his trial begins in January 2027.

Melly’s Lawyer Speaks Out After Bond Gets Denied Again

After the decision was handed down, Melly’s lawyer, Drew Findling, did not hold back. And said that the rapper has been subjected to “inhumane conditions” during his imprisonment.

“The Court, the State Attorney’s Office, and all who observed this bond hearing should have been deeply troubled. By the clear evidence presented regarding the inhumane conditions Mr. Demons has endured for over seven years. Including the last three in solitary confinement, while still presumed innocent under our Constitution,” he wrote in a statement shared to his Instagram account. “Yet the Court denied bond. And allowed those conditions to continue without even acknowledging the shocking circumstances under which he has been forced to live.”

He also made the point that Allen Cole, the shooter who attempted to execute an assassination at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, received an apology. After spending just a short time in the conditions that Melly has been subjected to for years.

“The irony is that within the last few days, the nation witnessed a United States Magistrate Judge apologize to an individual. Accused of attempting to assassinate the President of the United States over mere days spent in solitary confinement. While this Court has remained silent regarding the years Mr. Demons has endured under similar conditions,” he concluded.

YNW Melly has been in jail since February 2019. For the October 2018 murders of two friends. Christopher Thomas Jr., also known as YNW Juv, and Anthony Williams, aka YNW Sakchaser. He is accused of shooting them and staging the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting. In July 2023, the initial trial was declared a mistrial after a Broward County jury was deadlocked and unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
