Young M.A. stopped by New York radio station Hot 97 to promote her forthcoming album, KWEEN. And during her visit, she addressed one of the more controversial features on her album — incarcerated rap star, Tory Lanez.
Young M.A. Responds to Backlash Over Tory Lanez Feature
Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence. For shooting rap artist Megan Thee Stallion in the foot during a July 2020 incident. So naturally, some fans expressed outrage over the feature. But the Hot Sauce artist doesn’t appear to be phased by all of the backlash. Especially because of her personal relationship with Lanez.
“I don’t care what people are talking about. It ain’t got nothing to do with me. That’s the homie… I don’t play with Loyalty,” M.A. said.
But Young MA’s reasoning for featuring Lanez on the album goes even beyond their personal relationship. The Brooklyn native said that Lanez also brings familiarity from an artistic perspective.
“I actually listen to his music. I can’t deny that. Like me and the Bros, we put Tory on and really rock out the Tory Lanez. So I’m a fan as well of his music,” she continued. “And then he’s just a cool dude on the personal side. We talked numerous times even before he went in. He was a cool person. So I don’t look at it like that. … Whatever the internet got going on or whatever he got going on in his life, that don’t got nothing to do with me. He’s cool, dude.”
Lanez is scheduled to be released in 2033. However, he will be eligible for parole in November 2029.
