The past few weeks have been full of drama for rap star Young Thug. And it all began when his recorded prison phone calls began to leak online. On the calls, he was heard talking disparagingly about several of his rap contemporaries, such as Lil Baby, Drake, and Future. In addition, he was also caught admitting to being unfaithful to his girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist.
Young Thug Salutes Drake, Lil Baby & Savage For Staying Solid
In the aftermath of the leaked phone calls, Young Thug received a lot of backlash. From both fans and his rap contemporaries. But amid the drama, he says that three people who remained solid were 21 Savage, Drake, and Lil Baby.
“[Baby], Savage, Drake, they’re the realest people I ever met,” Young Thug said during an appearance on The Pivot podcast. “Savage, Lil Baby, Drake. The jail phones, [when] all that s**t came out, Drake texted me. ‘Bruh, n***a, I love you. F**k them. Drop that music, bro. Let your music talk.’ […] It’s a few people who didn’t call. So I’m damn near happy that this s**t happened because it just showed their colors. I had new plans with all those people included, too. So the people that let that type of s**t change how they feel or change how they move, it’s just, like, good.”
Rap Star Details Transition From The Street Life
Young Thug dropped his fourth studio album Uy Scuti on Friday, September 26. It is his first album since being released from federal custody in 2024. In lieu of prison time, Thug received 15 years of probation. As part of his probation, Thugger is not allowed to reference anything violent or gang-related in the lyrics of his music.
Because of this, fans were not sure what to expect from the rap star on his new album. But according to Young Thug, the transition out of street life began for him while he was still incarcerated.
“The transition started in jail, you know?” he added. “You’re just praying every day. You praying ten times a day to God, you’re telling God, ‘Man, get me out of this situation.’ Man, listen. I’m walking a straight line. I’m going green. So I think the transition started then.”
However, the rap star also admits that because of his celebrity status, he still felt “untouchable” after being released.
“But when you get out of jail, you feel, like, untouchable, too. So your mindset is on another planet,” he noted. “But the world is still stuck on the Young Thug that they know. So you’re trying to be a musical genius at the same time you’re trying to take your son to school, be a real man to your girlfriend. But you still got to appease.”
