Young Thug is making it crystal clear: any rapper who gets too friendly with the feds should take a hike.
On Monday (July 7), the YSL frontman hopped on X and dropped a sharp one-liner aimed squarely at rap’s alleged rats:
“If u a rapper and u a rat, u gotta just go gospel twin”
It’s the latest in a string of subliminal shots from Thugger, who’s remained vocal (even from behind bars and now post-release) about the code of silence and those who violate it. Back in May, he raised eyebrows after reacting to Kid Cudi taking the stand during Diddy’s federal trial.
That tweet didn’t last long, but it fit right in with the messaging he’s been pushing lately.
Just rewind to April, when he dropped “Money on Money” featuring Future. On that record, Thug goes in on people cooperating with authorities, rapping:
“These f–k n–as tellin’ for nothin’, and I gotta be the one callin’ ‘em friends,”
“Brother, you a rat (My brother),” and “Twin, you a rat, you smoked, uh.”
The bars raised even more eyebrows when paired with his GQ interview from around the same time. When asked directly about his relationship with Gunna—who’s faced criticism for his plea deal in the ongoing YSL RICO case—Thug simply smirked and said, “I don’t know.”
Fast-forward to last month, and the tension seemed to spill onto the stage. Thug made his big return at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash festival, his first major U.S. performance since being released from prison in late 2024. During his performance of “Ski,” the line mentioning Gunna (“She must be f–kin’ with Gunna”) was muted in the backing track—and Thug didn’t say it live either.
Despite the drama, Thugger made a strong comeback with a loaded set packed with unreleased heat and heavyweight guests. Travis Scott, Ken Carson, and T.I. all hit the stage, building anticipation for his long-teased UY Scuti album. One standout moment? Ken Carson hopping on a new cut reportedly titled “R.I.P. Scuti,” giving fans their first taste of Thug’s next chapter.
Young Thug is clearly drawing lines in the sand. And as far as he’s concerned, if you’ve ever folded under pressure? Rap might not be the lane for you anymore.
