Brian Steel Joining Diddy’s Defense Team
With the music mogul’s trial just a few weeks away, he has already begun to beef up his legal presentation. According to court reporter Megan Cunniff, famed celebrity attorney Brian Steel is joining Diddy’s defense team.
“Here’s something I didn’t expect to write: Young Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel has joined Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ criminal defense team,” Cunniff tweeted on April 15.
Steel is no stranger to representing music stars. Most recently, he represented Atlanta artist Young Thug in the YSL RICO trial. Thug wasn’t innocent. But the 15 years of probation he received was a slap on the wrist considering the 40 years he was facing.
Another rapper who was facing legal trouble this year was A$AP Rocky. Rocky originally was facing 24 years for allegedly attempting to shoot his former friend A$AP Relli. He received a not-guilty verdict. Thanks to his lawyer, Joe Tacopina.
After Rocky’s acquittal, many people wondered why Tacopina was not representing Diddy as well. He explained his reasoning during a recent interview.
“I didn’t turn him down because I don’t like him or I don’t believe in his case. I think he’s got a very defensible case,” he explained.
“To me, this whole case boils down to an issue of consent. As far as I know, I don’t know all the evidence. But it’s an issue of consent. Did they consent or did they not? Was a gun put to someone’s head? Or did they want to do it because they were getting all the perks associated with being part of a Diddy party and being one of Diddy’s entourage?”
