50 Cent doesn’t appear to be happy about movie giant Tyler Perry’s recent deal involving his stake in Black Entertainment Television (BET). And he recently took to social media to gripe about it.
50 Cent Sounds Off About Tyler Perry Selling BET Stake
The Get Rich or Die, Tryin Creator posted the screenshot of an article about Perry selling his stake in BET. And how the sale means that there will officially be no more black ownership in the company. Which 50 took issue with.
“Wait, we gotta own something 🤦♂️WTF,” he wrote in a social media post on Tuesday (March 17).
Many of the users in the comments section of the post seemed to agree.
“They don’t want black ppl owning anything, look around America,” one user wrote on Instagram.
“How about you and Tyler unite and do sth about it? You have the Power, a second user suggested.
50 Cent has become a major player in the film and television industry in his own right. He has worked with major networks, including ABC and STARZ, on hit shows such as For Life and Raising Kanan. And recently tapped into the documentary genre. His film Sean Combs: The Reckoning remained atop the Netflix most-watched list for several weeks. He also has upcoming projects such as Fightland, Power: Origins, and Power: Legacy.
The catalyst of Fif’s social media post was a March Deadline article that revealed that the famed playwright has sold his stake in BET to streaming giant Paramount in a blockbuster deal.
As part of Perry’s sale, BET+ will be extinguished and have all of its content moved to the Paramount app.
When speaking on the move, BET Networks President Louis Carr said:
“This powerful next step ensures the stories we champion, the creators we support, and the culture we represent go further than ever before.”
