Durk’s trial is scheduled to begin next October. And as Durk remains held without a bond, the feds have begun to collect evidence for the upcoming trial. Included in that batch of evidence are the lyrics to some of Lil Durk’s songs.
Lil Durk’s Family Rips Prosecution Over ‘False’ Evidence
However, the Chicago Native’s family does not believe that Durk’s lyrics should be included in his upcoming trial. In a recent statement, Lil Durk’s family accused the prosecutors of using “false evidence” to indict him.
“The recent developments in Durk’s legal case have brought a harsh truth to light. The government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him. So this isn’t justice. That’s a violation of the very system that’s supposed to protect all of us,” the family said in a reel posted to the rap stars Instagram page on April 29.
The family also added that the government’s decision to use his lyrics as evidence is just the latest case of another rapper’s “creativity” being “criminalized”.
“Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal,” his family added.
“And yet those same lyrics are now being used against him. We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.”
They also added: “As a family, we are asking the public, the fans, and the culture to stand with us. Stand for truth, stand for fairness, stand for The Voice.”
Being incarcerated hasn’t stopped Durk’s motion on the outside. His latest project Deep Thoughts, dropped on Friday, March 28. Following the release of his album Durk promised fans that he was coming home.
“So thank y’all for rocking with me through everything,” the rapper noted. “I tell these stories so our voice is never lost. I’m coming home soon stronger than ever.”
