However, the situation involving the Montero creator seems far from minuscule. In a statement released by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman on Monday, he called Lil Nas X’s actions a “direct threat to public safety.” Hochman also noted that the Old Town Road artist will face “serious consequences” for his actions.
“Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety,” Hochman said in the statement. “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”
During his appearance in court on Monday, Lil Nas X’s lawyer, Christy O’Connor, called his actions an “aberration.”
“Assuming the allegations here are true, this is an absolute aberration in this person’s life,” O’Connor said in court, according to the Associated Press. “Nothing like this has ever happened to him.”
If convicted, the Grammy winner could face up to five years in prison.
