Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s 2024 feud will go down in history. And despite the feud initially between the two Grammy-winners, several other people got caught in the crosshairs. One of those people was Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) songstress SZA.
SZA Breaks Silence About Drake, Kendrick Feud
SZA had a connection to both parties. Obviously, she and Kendrick are both signed to TDE. But she has also been connected to Drake for several years. Through music and beyond.
So obviously Drake used that in his beef with Kendrick. When he name-dropped her in “push-ups,” and alleged that she was more of a commodity on TDE than Kendrick is.
However, SZA never chose a side in the feud. Because she didn’t feel like she needed to.
“It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men, you know?” SZA said in a new interview with GQ.
“And I feel like that’s how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn’t feel that way.”I didn’t really have any stake, per se. Obviously, I love Kendrick. I’m signed to TDE. That’s my family. Obviously, I’ve known Drake for so long, and we have a beautiful rapport. And, obviously, it’s always unfortunate when the unfortunate occurs.”
Still, the beef between Drake and Kendrick caused a major divide in the hip-hop community. As many people felt that you had to pick a side in their beef. So, of course, it became a conflict when SZA joined Kendrick on his Grand National tour. And it became an even bigger problem when fans noticed that she included her and Drake’s song “Rich Baby Daddy” in her setlist.
But despite the backlash, SZA feels like having the song as part of her performance was a no-brainer.
“Why wouldn’t I? ‘Poetic Justice’ was in the set list,” she said, referencing Kendrick’s 2012 song with Drake, also being included in the set. “So why wouldn’t I keep ‘Rich Baby Daddy’? I don’t know why I wouldn’t be celebrating some s**t that I ate up.”
Neither Drake or Kendrick have responded to SZA’s comments.
