The rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake may have happened over a year ago. But it is still as relevant today as it was when Kendrick threw the first shot on Metro Boomin’s Like That.
Young Thug Weighs in On The State of Hip-Hop
Many people think that two of the most prominent stars in hip-hop trading jabs was good for the genre. However, rap star Young Thug has a different opinion. During a recent stream, the Atlanta rap artist said that the feud between Kendrick and Drizzy is the reason that hip-hop is in a “weird place” right now.
“I feel like I always wanted to do this type of music, and then I feel like rap is in a weird space right now,” he explained, as heard by @big_business_ on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Because it just seems like everybody’s beefing. … Two of the biggest artists in the world clash, and a lot of f*cking ripple effect came out after that. Weird. I feel like it’s time. I feel like we gotta take it to the next level. We gotta level up. Like, AI. It’s just so much. Everything in the world is leveling up except hip-hop.”
Young Thug says Hip Hop is in a weird place and an all time low right now after the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef:

However, many fans on social media did not agree with Young Thug’s comments.
“What is he talking about? Clipse, Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick, Wale, Nas, Tyler, Gunna, and JID all released damn good projects this year and last year. Monaleo and Tia Corine as well. Hip hop is in a great space,” one fan wrote under the social media post.
“Lol bruh if anything that rap beef made hip hop exciting…it’s just nobody wanted to hear the usual same BULLS**T NO MORE,” a second user added.
“The problem is that Kendrick Lamar and Clipse made life complicated for mumble rap fans; people want to hear bars, they’re tired of just hearing a good beat and a tired MC on the mic spouting nonsense,” a third user chimed in.
