J. Cole released his seventh studio album, The Fall Off, on February 6th. A lot transpired between The Offseason (released May 2021) and his latest project. Rap beefs, lawsuits, and everything in between. And now that Cole has officially dropped the project, he has hinted at it potentially being his last.
J. Cole Addresses Potential Retirement in New Interview
During a recent interview on Cam’ron’s Talk With Flee, Cole once again addressed the retirement rumors. And in his words, he’s “cool” if he never drops another project. But if he feels inspired to do so in a few years, he won’t let the trauma of what happened between himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar discourage him from creating his art.
“If that’s my last album, I’m cool. If I get inspired in a year, two years, five years, ten years to do another album, I’m not going to fight the feeling… Because of what happened two years ago,” he said as heard through Kurrco/X. “I’m very inspired right now, because I fell back in love with this sh*t.”

Of course, fans had a lot of reactions to Cole’s comments.
“Cole’s attitude is very real; music creation should follow inspiration,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Fell back in love with the craft… this is why we don’t ever sleep on Cole,” a second person added.
“Give us it’s a boy before you retire, please,” a third user requested.
The Fall-Off earned J. Cole his seventh number one album on the Billboard Hot 200 with approximately 280,000–300,000 equivalent album units moved in its first week.
Cole also released a mixtape earlier this year, Birthday Blizzard 2026. The project, hosted by DJ Clue, was made to commemorate his 41st birthday.
However, it sounds like he is on the fence about what his future holds.
