Amber Rose Ignited Kanye’s 2009 VMAs Rant
At the time of the viral moment, Kanye West was dating reality TV star Amber Rose. Rose recently revealed she played a pivotal part in West’s infamous rant.
During an appearance on the Ball in the Family Podcast with Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball, Rose revealed that she encouraged Kanye to drink a bottle of Hennessy before they arrived at the star-studded event.
“You’re a f*****g superstar. We need to get that Hennessy. We need to be on the carpet just taking shots of Henny on the carpet,” she recalled telling West via AllHipHop. “You’re the biggest thing in the whole world.”
When Swift received the 2009 VMA for Best Female Video, Kanye West made an unexpected cameo. He took the mic from Swift and declared that Beyoncé’s music video for “Single Ladies” was one of the greatest music videos of all time. Kanye abruptly dropped the mic after making the bombshell statement, leaving the entire audience, including Swift and Beyoncé, stunned.
Despite encouraging Kanye to drink the bottle of liquor, Rose says the viral moment still took her by surprise.
“All of a sudden, I’m just sitting there, and then he’s on stage. I’m like, ‘Oh s###. I was not expecting that,” she added.
However, even though it took her by surprise back then, Rose still feels like Ye’s answer was “right.”
“That’s naturally Kanye’s personality. Do I agree with how he did it? No. But was he right? Yes. That’s how I feel,” she concluded.
In the end, it all worked out for Swift. Some fans have even suggested that the viral moment is what catapulted her to global superstardom.
