Drake finally dropped his highly anticipated ninth studio album, Iceman, on Friday (May 15). And many listeners are already declaring that Drizzy’s newest project is already a classic.
Jaylen Brown Says Drake’s New Album Lacks ‘Context’
However, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown feels different about Iceman. Brown went live on his Twitch channel over the weekend following the release of Drake’s new album. And gave his official review.
Brown admitted that he had not fully listened to Drake’s new album. But said that the songs that he did hear were “cool.”
“Shoutout to Drake, you know, he’s been doing his thing, having a great career,” Brown said in a clip caught by Big_Business on X. His album just dropped. You know, I got more to listen to; I can’t even give y’all my full opinion. I gotta let it breathe. Maybe I’ll get back on chat and kind of let y’all know. But like the songs that I heard were cool, you know what I mean?,”
However, the former NBA Finals MVP also had his share of criticisms about Drake’s new project. Brown said that the rap star appeared to be trying to “move forward.” And felt that a lot of the new music lacked “context.”
“I feel like this whole album, he’s just trying to get to whatever the next part of his career is. I think he was just trying to get out of his deal, you know, move forward. So he just dumped a bunch of music with no context,” he continued. “And like, you know, I would love to see artists paint and tell a story with their albums again. You know what I mean? Like from track one to the last track. Like, create a full piece. I feel like that era is not really emphasizing our era anymore for real. But you know what I mean? That’s just my thoughts. Take it with a grain of salt. Shoutout to Drake.”
