Dreamville artist JID does not appreciate the comments made by label boss J. Cole on his Birthday Blizzard 2026 mixtape.
On the song “99 Build Freestyle,” Cole says that if real hip-hop is back, JID’s next album should attain platinum certification.
“If hip-hop is back, JID should chart platinum / Anything less than that, it means y’all cappin,” he raps on the new song.
JID Blasts J. Cole in Deleted Social Media Post
However, even though Cole may have intended the bar to be a salute to JID, he didn’t seem to appreciate the comments. In a post to his social media account on Tuesday (May 19), he called the bar “ass” and disagreed with the sentiment entirely.
“N***a ain’t say s**t. I’ve been overly platinum, that bar was ass,” he said in a deleted tweet caught by Kurrco on X.

JID has been signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville label since 2017. And despite being heralded by many fans as one of the top lyricists in the game, it has not really equated to commercial success.
Some people, like radio host Charlamagne Tha God, believe the onus falls on J. Cole. As the Dreamville label owner, JID’s marketing ultimately falls on his shoulders.
“It is interesting to hear the owner of a label talk like that when it comes to marketing and promotion; he can help with that,” he said. “J. Cole could’ve done more appearances with JID. He could’ve put his arm around JID a lot more, probably done some more records with him. There are ways J. Cole could’ve used his light and his stardom to amplify God Does Like Ugly.”
JID’s fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly, was released in August 2025. It reached a peak of number 11 on the Billboard Hot 200. It is also a Grammy Award nominee for Best Rap Album of the year.
