Most people know Teyana as the star actress who starred in blockbusters such as The Book of Clarence. Or the R&B singer who has collaborated with the likes of Rick Ross. But for a significant group of people, Teyana is still the Harlem teen who appeared on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16. And with a run that has lasted for decades, BET is giving the actress her flowers.
Teyana Taylor Set to Receive BET’s ‘Icon of The Year’ Honor
Teyana is set to receive the Icon of the Year Award at the 2026 BET Awards later this month.
Each year, the network presents the honor to “someone whose impact isn’t measured in years. But in the undeniable weight they carry in every room, every conversation, and every corner of the culture they touch.”
In a release, BET executive VP of specials, music programming, and strategy Connie Orlando said that Taylor is the “embodiment” of the award.
“Teyana Taylor is the embodiment of what it means to be an icon in this moment,” Orland said (Via The Hollywood Reporter).
“She doesn’t ask for a seat at the table. She builds the table, designs the rooms, and sets the tone for everyone who walks in. Her fingerprints are all over culture, and it is an honor to celebrate everything she represents on Culture’s Biggest Night.”
Teyana earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 98th Academy Awards (2026) for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. She was also nominated for an Oscar for that same role.
The 2026 BET Awards are set to go down on Sunday, June 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
