Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium finale on Sunday (July 12) was the subject of controversy. After attendees complained about a delay that lasted for several hours.
Jay-Z Addresses Yankee Stadium Concert Delay
After Hov finally took the stage on Sunday night, he explained the reason for the delay. And explained that fans outside rushed the entrances, which caused security to stop letting fans into the stadium. And said, for everyone’s safety, he waited until all of the fans were inside the arena.
“Let me explain the delay to you guys,” he said as caught by Hot97. “It was like 10,000 people outside, and we closed all the doors, and somebody rushed the door. They closed the door for your safety and everyone’s safety outside.”
He also added: “There are 10,000 people outside; I don’t want to start the music and people get trampled. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everyone was okay. I appreciate your patience.”
Roc Nation also confirmed that “hundreds of individuals in large groups,” stormed the entrances over ticket holders and “breached security,” in a statement following the performance.
Jay-Z did make it up to his fans, though. He brought out several surprise guests. Including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Usher, Clipse, Pharrell, and a host of others.
However, even though his run at Yankee Stadium is over, he isn’t done performing. The rap star is set to perform in London, Paris, and Los Angeles in the coming months. But what fans are really hoping for is that this run culminates with a new album.
