An investigation has been launched after the debacle that occurred at Jay-Z’s extra innings concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday Night (July 12).
Mamdani Vows to Investigate Yankee Stadium Breach
A security breach at the stadium caused the final show to be delayed for several hours. In a press conference on Monday (July 13), New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the breach. And said that he and his staff would “follow up” on the debacle.
“Last night is something that we’re going to follow up on,” Mamdani said. “Because I know many New Yorkers who were delayed after there was a breach of security by those who didn’t have tickets, and that resulted in a multiple-hour delay for many others.”
Jay-Z did not go on until after midnight for a show that was scheduled to begin at 8 pm. When the rap star finally hit the stage, he explained the reason for the delay—and explained that fans outside rushed the entrances, which caused security to stop letting fans into the stadium. And said, for everyone’s safety, he waited until all of the fans who were outside made it into the stadium.
“It was like 10,000 people outside, and we closed all the doors, and somebody rushed the door. They closed the door for your safety and everyone’s safety outside,” he said.
“There are 10,000 people outside; I don’t want to start the music and have people get trampled. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everyone was okay. I appreciate your patience.”
Still, some ticket holders claimed that they were still not allowed into the event.
