Shedeur Sanders Addresses Critics in New Track

On Monday (July 19), Sanders released a new track titled Turned Back. He addresses all of his critics and the people who want to see him fail.

“Too many people want to see me fail; they still talk down on my name, but I wish them well. I’m living free, but mentally I’m in a cell,” he says on the song.

Later on the track, he raps:

“People switch up on me, but it didn’t go as planned. I can’t respect that man; you’re supposed to stay down ’til the end. They turned their back on me, so ain’t no turning back to them. So when I pop it, I promise it ain’t gonna be no new friends.”

Shedeur Opens Up About QB Competition

The song comes at an interesting time as Sanders is currently in a competition for the Browns’ starting quarterback job with Deshaun Watson. When asked his thoughts on having to compete for a starting role, despite ending last season with the job, his response was blunt. Both he and Watson are trying to be the “best version” of themselves.

“I would say it’s the same thing that we’ve been saying from Day 1,” Sanders said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “We’re both trying to be the best version of ourselves we could be. So we’re not going to let anything get in between that. So it’s a level of respect that we all in the quarterback room have for each other.

He also insisted that neither one of them is taking it personally. And even has leaned on each other during the competition.

“And we’re not really emotional when it comes to things that we can’t control. We mainly focus on and thrive on getting better in the work every day. So if I like something he’s doing, I ask. If he likes something I do, then [he] asks. It’s conversation, and that’s what’s most effective.”
