Drake always pays homage to Lil Wayne as the mentor who gave him his first big break in the music industry. However, Lil Wayne recently revealed that even as his mentee, he has learned some things from Drizzy.
Wayne Credits Drake For Introducing Him to The Teleprompter
During a recent interview on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Weezy credited Drake for giving him the idea to use a teleprompter to ready the lyrics during his performances. A method that he still uses to this day.
“I got that from Drizzy. He asked me to come out one night… I had to pop out from the middle of the stage, and I saw there were TVs. I started looking at them sh*ts and saw my lyrics. I was like, ‘You could do this? This is awesome,’” Wayne said as caught by Kurrco on X. “Ever since I saw them, I’ve not had them. I don’t care if we doing a Bar Mitzvah, I need it.”

When Drizzy first burst onto the scene in the 2010s, most people just knew him as wheelchair Jimmy from Degrassi. And he just happened to rap. But it was a co-sign from Weezy and signing to his Young Money label, which took him mainstream. And ultimately led him to one of the biggest artists of all time.
Elsewhere in the interview, Lil Wayne also talks about how he almost instantly knew that Drake was going to be a special artist.
“When I heard [Drake], it was all rap. Then, one of those hooks came in, and I was like, ‘Who’s on the hook?’ And they were like, ‘That’s him.’ And I was like, ‘That’s the guy? That’s him singing? Why he ain’t do more of this? It was instant. Like, come on, man,” he said on the podcast (via Kurrco/X).
