With LeBron James gearing up to play his historic 24th NBA season, nobody knows how much longer he will play. But as one of the greatest athletes of his time, fans want to cherish every remaining moment of his career. And ESPN wants to give those fans a behind-the-scenes look at James’ final moments in the league.
LeBron, ESPN Nearing Deal on Behind-the-Scenes Documentary
It will be similar to ESPN’s documentary “The Last Dance.” A film that featured exclusive footage from Michael Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls.
According to a Monday (July 30) report from The Athletic, James and ESPN are nearing a deal to produce a behind-the-scenes documentary. A camera crew will follow James around and document his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, whom he signed with as a free agent earlier this month.
Nothing is official, but the deal is said to be on the “one-yard line.”
James will sign with the franchise on a two-year/ $8 million deal. He will now join an already stacked roster in the City of Brotherly Love, which features a plethora of All-Star-level talent. Including Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid. In addition to a rising star in second-year player VJ Edgecombe. The Sixers are among the favorites to win the 2027 championship among oddsmakers.
With James only signing with the Sixers on a two-year deal, the thinking is that Philadelphia will be the final stop of his illustrious NBA career. But according to James, it almost came even sooner than that. After he signed with the Sixers, James admitted that he contemplated retiring during the offseason.
“I thought I was done when the season ended,”he wrote in a social media post in July. “Wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide. But I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love [the game].”
It sounds like this is truly the final run for LeBron.
