Rapsody is speaking out about the state of hip-hop culture and who is being given the power to shape its narrative.
During a recent conversation, the North Carolina rapper said hip-hop has not always been presented with the care and respect the art form deserves, particularly when it comes to media platforms that cover the culture.
“It’s a beautiful art form, and we haven’t projected it enough in that way,” Rapsody said. “We’ve given it to the wrong people.”
She went on to stress the importance of supporting people who genuinely love and understand hip-hop, while questioning why the culture often gives so much attention to platforms and personalities it criticizes.
“We’ll talk about things that we don’t like vs. the people that we do like,” she said. “How are we being intentional with our art form and our story and our truth and who we give it to?”
Her comments appeared to take aim at outlets such as DJ Vlad and No Jumper, while raising a broader conversation about ownership, representation and responsibility within hip-hop media.
