September 11th, 2001 will live in infamy. The tragedy of the event has a direct throughline to our dystopian times: especially when it comes to surveillance.
Now, on the 25th anniversary of the catastrophe, New Yorkers are reflecting on that fateful day.
Public Enemy rapper Flavor Fav, a legendary New Yorker, posted about his experience seeing the Twin Towers disappear.
“I remember looking at my window at the twin towers on September 11th. And then they weren’t there. So much pride in being a New Yorker and so much pride in being an American. We all had something in common,,, we were ALL Americans. May we never forget the lives that were lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, or the families and friends who have carried that loss every day since. Never Forget,” Flav posted.
He followed up with another post honoring those we lost with altruism.
Today I’m honoring 9/11 Day by turning remembrance into action. 25 years later,,, we remember those we lost and honor the heroes who stepped up by continuing to do GOOD. It appears Flav is supplying the first 25 teachers who reply to him with their wish list for the school year. Teachers in New York had a very difficult time during that fateful day, as they had to gather students to get to safety, or dismiss them, as the images of the burning towers have not left any child who is now an adult who remembers the day.
