In 2025, rap star 21 Savage curated the F**k The Streets” campaign. A movement that denounces the gang culture and street violence that has historically been celebrated in hip-hop culture. Several other top artists, such as G-Herbo, Young Thug, and a host of others, joined the movement, echoing the same sentiment on social media.
A$AP Rocky Chimes in on 21 Savage’s ‘F**k The Streets’ Movement
A$AP Rocky appears to be the latest artist to voice his support for the movement. During a recent sit-down with Esquire, A$AP Rocky was asked about the meaning behind his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb. In his response, he noted that on his new project, he wanted to leave his past “reckless” behavior behind.
“The previous album focused heavily on reckless behaviors and crash dummies. This new work serves as a counter-narrative.”
He also says that many artists, such as himself, are starting to uncover the ugly truth behind street culture. And how it is rooted in trauma.
“Recently, artists have begun expressing sentiments like, ‘Forget the streets. I’m dealing with trauma. So these individuals who once embraced the ‘gangsta’ persona are now uncovering the truth: this narrative is an illusion.”
Rocky has seen the ugly side of street culture face-to-face. In 2025, the rap star was said to be facing up to 24 years in his shooting trial. A case which stemmed from the Harlem native allegedly shooting several rounds at his former friend and one-time bandmate A$AP Rellie.
Fortunately for Rocky, he was acquitted of all of those charges. So knowing how close he was to a jail cell seems to have given him a new perspective on street culture.
