Chris Brown was looking to cash in on a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment. Unfortunately, that suit was dismissed by a judge on Monday (January 12).

Chris Brown Loses $500 Million Defamation Suit

The R&B star filed the lawsuit over the film Chris Brown: A History of Violence. A documentary that details his pattern of abusive behavior dating back to his 2009 assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown had previously argued that many of the statements made in the film were untrue. And thus filed the lucrative defamation suit against the film companies. However, after viewing the documentary, a judge ruled that no infractions were committed.

“The court has personally viewed the entire documentary. The documentary recites most of the inconsistencies plaintiff notes, including the existence of the text messages,” Judge Colin Leis wrote in the dismissal order, as heard through Billboard.

Judge Leis also noted that “Media defendants thus presented a ‘fair and true’ report of [the woman’s] statements and the judicial record and proceedings.”

In addition to documenting his past behaviour, new allegations were revealed in the film. Including an account from an anonymous woman who alleges that the Say Goodbye Singer drugged and raped her on a yacht owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2020.

It doesn’t bode well that the Bad Boy Records founder was convicted of interstate prostitution in October 2025. And the alleged prostitution was said to have happened at one of Diddy’s parties, also known as “freak offs.”

In May, Combs was sentenced to 50 Months in prison.

Ironically, Diddy is said to be preparing his own legal filings. Over the recent release of Netflix’s new film, Sean Combs: The Reckoning. One that details his years of crimes and accounts from several of his former employees. Alleging similar abuse. Like Brown, Combs also alleges many of the accounts made in the film are untrue.

At the time of writing, Brown and his team have not revealed if they will appeal the judge’s ruling.
