Colin Kaepernick made the first official stop of his book tour in Detroit, where he spoke candidly about Jay-Z’s controversial Yankee Stadium freestyle, his own NFL protest, and the complicated relationship between sports, activism and corporate power.

Kaepernick’s memoir, The Perilous Fight, is scheduled to officially release on September 15.
