On Monday (June 10), the 26-year-old Florida native took home the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award at the 2025 BET Awards in Los Angeles, beating out heavyweights like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and more. But her acceptance speech wasn’t just a celebration—it was a call to action.
Taking the stage at the Peacock Theater, the TDE signee shifted the room’s energy by addressing the growing protests outside the venue. Demonstrators had gathered in response to a wave of ICE raids and the military presence ordered by President Donald Trump throughout the city.
“There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order,” Doechii said. “Trump is using military forces to stop a protest, and I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our Democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?”

She didn’t stop there. Doechii used her platform to advocate for marginalized communities affected by systemic violence.
“People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people,” she continued. “For Black people, for Latino people, for Trans people, for the people in Gaza—we all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it.”
Tensions had been mounting all weekend as protests flared across Los Angeles. President Trump responded by deploying the National Guard to crack down on demonstrations sparked by increased ICE activity in the city.
The hip-hop world has been quick to respond. On Sunday (June 8), Tyler, the Creator added his voice by posting a clip from Paid in Full on Instagram. In the scene, the character Mitch says: “Let me tell you something, little man. F—k Ice. Don’t be listening to Ice. […] Ice ain’t no real man.” Tyler punctuated the post with the caption: “F—K ICE.”
Other artists have joined the chorus of resistance. The Game, Kehlani, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong have all expressed solidarity with protesters demanding an end to aggressive immigration enforcement.
Doechii’s speech wasn’t just timely—it was fearless. In an industry where silence often feels safer, she made it clear she’s not here just to win trophies—she’s here to represent those who often go unheard.
