Even though he only spent one season with the Raptors, he is very much a part of the fabric of the franchise’s history. Leonard led the Raptors to their only championship in franchise history back in 2019. Defeating the then two-time champion Golden State Warriors in six games.
Leonard was traded from the Spurs in exchange for Demar DeRozan. And won a championship the very next season. Drake references the situation in his new Iceman track, National Treasure.
“When you were part of the team, we used to be planning our Mexico trips in the spring. We must’ve been dealing in the spur of the moment. Cause why (Kawhi) did we think you could get us a ring?” he raps on the song. While taking shots at DeRozan.
A recent report from ESPN’s Shams Charania suggested that the Raptors and the Clippers are “engaged” in talks surrounding Leonard. And are looking to swap him in a package surrounding Raptors All-Star, Brandon Ingram.
