Veteran hip-hop journalist Elliot Wilson is choosing to see glass half full in light of his recent medical episode.
The former Editor-In-Chief of XXL took to socials on Tuesday (Feb. 24) to reveal he recently underwent cardiac surgery and is now firmly on the road to recovery. Alongside a striking black-and-white photo showing a long surgical scar running from his upper chest to his abdomen, the Queens native shared that he’s already halfway through the healing process.
“Cardiac surgery three weeks ago. Three more to full recovery,” Wilson wrote. “Got way more life to live. My next chapter might f*** around and be my best one.”
While Wilson kept details about the procedure and any future plans under wraps, the post struck an encouraging tone during a vulnerable moment — and social media quickly rallied around the respected media voice.
At 55, the longtime culture critic remains a major presence in hip-hop media through his work with Uproxx and Hip-Hop DX. Elliott Wilson’s pen dates back to the ’90s with bylines at The Source and Vibe, plus the launches of culture-shifting platforms like Ego Trip and Rap Radar.
