Controversial UK rapper M.I.A. has generated controversy over the years for her outspoken views. According to several TikToks, the “Paper Planes” rapper upset some fans during the Dallas stop of Kid Cudi’s Rebel Ragers Tour.
What Did M.I.A. Allegedly Say?
Videos of M.I.A. went viral, claiming she went on a “Republican rant,” and made a joke about illegal immigrants. The initial tweet and TikTok caught the aftermath of her comments. Some fans pointed out that the video didn’t show any rant or an illegal immigrant joke. However, other videos capture the joke in question.
“I can’t do ‘Illegal’,” M.I.A. said. “There’s some of you who could be in the audience.”
Booing began soon after, prompting her to clarify her comments.
“Alright, I’m Illegal,” she said. “Half of my team aren’t here because they couldn’t get a visa. I want you to know that. So don’t listen to what the bots say on the internet.”
While the actual moment of her going on the “Republican rant” has so far not been posted, several people in the audience claim it happened.

Fan reaction was split…mostly from the video that sparked the controversy not actually containing a rant.
“Nothing in the video matches the caption,” one user posted. “But the bots under this will reply as if it does and then humans who wont watch the video will see the bots and agree. This app has become pure engagement farming slop.”
“There’s no correlation between the clip, the caption and the tweet?, another user posted. “I’m confused…at no point is she saying that she’s a republican and that’s she’s playing for illegals. She said people from her team couldn’t come cause they didn’t get their visa…”
“Can y’all even hear are do y’all just read the caption and go from there?, another user posted. “Literally she saying the opposite and y’all going in on her s***. WTH!! Idiots!!”
However, other users who claim they were at the show shared what they heard.
