Former NFL All-Pro Antonio Brown has pleaded not guilty in his attempted murder trial.
Antonio Brown Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charge
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, claims that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star was “forced” to take the measures he did. And insisted that he was acting “solely in self-defense.”
“So the actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged victim’s violent behavior. Brown was attacked that night. And acted within his legal right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh said In a statement to ESPN,
In a prior statement to NBC News, Eiglarsh said it was his “passionate” belief in Brown’s story that made him take on the case. Noting that the alleged victim was behaving violently on the night in question. He also says that the victim has a criminal history.
“Brown was attacked that night. And acted within his legal right to protect himself. From an individual who previously committed criminal acts against him,” he said. “It’s a privilege to represent him, and I am determined to ensure that justice is served.”
Story Behind Former Star’s Arrest
Brown’s arrest stems from a May 2025 shooting that occurred after a boxing match in Miami.
In the arrest warrant obtained by ESPN, Brown is accused of taking a handgun. From a security staffer at the boxing event. And firing two shots at an individual he had a confrontation with earlier that evening.
However, shortly after the altercation occurred, Brown took to social media. And claimed that the victim was trying to cause “physical harm” to him.
“I was jumped by multiple individuals. Who tried to steal my jewelry. And cause physical harm to me,” he wrote on his X account in May (Via ESPN). “Contrary to some video circulating, the Police temporarily detained me. Until they received my side of the story and then released me. SO I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED. I will be talking to my legal counsel and attorneys about pressing charges on the individuals who jumped me.”
According to ESPN, Brown could receive a bail hearing as soon as Wednesday.
